Today you may read about the antics and publicity sought by such artists as Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Madonna but if you were able to turn back the clock to the Twenties and Thirties you would soon realise that they are mere amateurs and pale into insignificance when compared to Joséphine Baker.
Joséphine's lifestyle and antics are almost unbelievable, whether it be her many menagerie of pets which included a cheetah to her many affairs with both men and women or her work in the French resistance during WWII, which saw her awarded several medals. It is safe to say that when Joséphine died so did one of the greatest divas of the jazz age.
