    Still alive and well and active in Paris, tenor saxophonist Popkin became known in the sixties when he became one of the leading lights in the Lennie Tristano School following the paths of Lee Konitz and and Warne Marsh.
    A very dedicated musician, Popkin says, "For art to mean something it has to have spontaneity and feeling." He learned from Tristano that "You should be able to play something as you hear it and feel it.
    Your instrument is supposed to be the amplifier that is plugged into your head." Lenny is joined here by fellow former Tristano-ites bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Peter Scattaretico in a programme of standards and originals which swing from start to finish.
