Description
Recorded live at a small club in Colorado in 1969, the music on this CD is being released here for the first time. The 69 minutes on these 10 tracks give the musicians plenty of time to stretch out, get into the music and express themselves. The music is in a disciplined, modern swing style and the repertoire consists of perennial jazz favourites. RALPH SUTTON's piano playing is heavily influenced by the stride style of James P. Johnson and Willie "The Lion" Smith, and BOB WILBER's stylebears the influence of Sidney Bechet. Clarinettist and saxophonist Wilber played for five years with Sutton in The World's Greatest Jazz Band and their wonderful, close musical affinity is very evident on this disc. With AL HALL (bass),CLIFF LEEMAN (drums).
