Description
Steve Tilston renowned singer-songwriter and 2012 BBC Folk Awards nominee, joins acclaimed Yorkshire roots outfit The Durbervilles for a lively five track EP collaboration.
Steve Tilston, the highly regarded singer songwriter and stalwart of the folk scene of some 40 years, has hit a purple patch over the last few months. He's enjoyed a unanimous "thumbs up" from the press for his recent solo album The Reckoning, a Folk Awards nomination for the title track and a BBC TV appearance on Later with Jools Holland. Alongside all this activity, he has also been collaborating with Yorkshire based roots quintet The Durbervilles, first as a live act (you may have seen them on the bill at Cropredy 2011) and now in the studio: The Oxenhope EP being the result. This five track CD leads off with a single version of Oil & Water (as performed on "Later") with The Durbervilles providing tasteful instrumental support and backing vocals. Three of the other tracks on the EP radically revisit Steve's back catalogue, while a new Durbervilles original completes the package. Press reaction is already coming in: "The Durbs really shovel in behind Tilston and bring out the best" fRoots "..a real free running delight.." Tykes News ". "This compelling combination of talents is mouth-watering enough to contemplate on paper, but even tastier in the flesh" Folk Roundabout.
Steve Tilston & The Durbervilles will be appearing at festival dates in 2012, starting with Shepley Spring Festival on May 27th.
