    After the matriach Mahalia Jackson, and along with Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Marion Williams (1927-1994) was one of the most influential singers in gospel music, in fact in her heyday she was hailed by some critics as one of the greatest singers in America, period. From 1948 she spent 10 years as lead vocalist with Clara Ward & The Ward Singers, then led her own group The Stars Of Faith before launching a successful solo career in the mid '60s. This 24 track compilation, including 12 previously unissued recordings, appears to stem from her solo years.
