Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar burst on to the scene with their debut CD, The Queen's Lover (Fellside FECD251). Recorded while both of them were still at school and released during the summer of 2012. Within six months they had been nominated for, and won, the BBC Young Folk Award.
They promptly did a round of major festivals in 2013 including the prestigious Cambridge Folk Festival and Cropredy all the time honing their stagecraft and building their reputation. In the Autumn of 2013 they were nominated for and won the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Fellside has a reputation for discovering new, young artists and hasn't experienced anything like this rapid climb in popularity by Greg & Ciaran since Fellside introduced Spiers & Boden.
With a fine repertoire of songs and tunes alongside Greg's powerful vocals and Ciaran's astonishingly talented fiddle playing this is a duo who will achieve so much over the next few years. They already have an extensive gig list this year to promote the new album. In June they play a special concert which will be filmed for DVD release.

“"Russell's clear and natural voice - inderpinned by his sublime acoustic guitar work - is key. . . but the icing on the cake is Algar's immense fiddle playing. Sometimes delicate, ocassionally raucous: he adds imaginative sparkle"”Acoustic Magazine (July 2014)
