A classic reissue from Brtiain's leading Trad Jazz band.
Chris Barber has been at the forefront of the European Jazz scene since the 1950s. With the demise of the Trad Boom in the 1960s Chris Barber had the musical and business acumen to adapt his band to changing times which is why it is still on the road today and still pulls big audiences. By the late 1970s Chris Barber's Jazz Band had become Chris Barber's Jazz & Blues Band with the addition of blues guitar and an additional saxophone in the front line.
This album was recorded at the Barbican Centre in London which had had its official opening four weeks prior to this concert. The concert was a 'standing room only' event, and this album is a representative snap-shot of the band at the time. It's a heady mix of Classic Jazz and Swing tunes, Trad favourites, music from other musical genres (Robbie Robertson's 'The Weight') and crowd pleasers. Class musicianship, well recorded and a great atmosphere add up to this being one of the best Chris Barber albums.
Lake has led the field in reissuing Chris Barber albums and they outsell any other band on the label.
