Unarguably England's most important folk group, Waterson:Carthy was created from the dynamic fusion of two generations, Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy and their daughter Eliza Carthy - living proof of the tenacity and vivacity of the folk tradition. Among many other honours and awards, each has been individually voted "Singer Of The Year" by the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. For any group to have such a highly rated talent in it would mark it out, but for a group to have three such singers is more than oustanding. And when they get together the sum is greater than the already quite incredible parts.
"The Definitive Collection" contains over an hour of music drawn from their five highly praised Topic albums and also includes a previously unreleased live track, "Jacob's Well", and a track from the seven-member harmony group Blue Murder. Standout performances from all the group's members are featured throughout this outstanding collection.
