Description
The musical "Fanny" opened on Broadway in 1954 and ran for 888 performances. It also enjoyed a successful run in London. Its thrilling, passionate and melodic score was written by Harold Rome, and it is a score perfectly right for the story of the Marseilles harbour people of Marcel Pagnol's classic trilogy. It has a wonderful story, and the music, with its soaring themes and sweeping grandeur, brings it at times close to light opera; it has a depth that many musical plays don't possess. The show had a stunning cast: with Ezio Pinza and Walter Slezak as the two patriarchs, and William Tabbert and Florence Henderson as Marius and Fanny.This beautiful musical's original cast album has been unavailable for a long time, and Flare is proud to be able to issue it again. Six bonus tracks have been added to the earlier release and these feature Pinza, Henderson and Tabbert singing songs from the shows.
