  • Description

Born in Belém and raised in Fortaleza, Saulo Duarte's guitar playing is rooted in the Country-style picking of 'guitarrada' music from the north of Brazil, a sound perhaps best exemplified in the recordings of Vieira e Seu Conjunto, whose 1980s classic 'Lambada Do Rei' Sterns first released in 1988. But Saulo is now living in São Paulo, the nation's commercial hub, and with his more international sound, has become one of Brazil's most in-demand musicians. He has been and some cases still is, the guitarist for artists such as Céu, Russo Passapusso, Curumin, Anelis Assumpção and more. In fact, with his own group A Unidade, he has previously released three albums. Avante Delírio (roughly translating as 'Onward Delirium') is the first album of Saulo's that is truly his alone, and it's here he has placed some of his most intimate and genre defying songs. Which is not to say that he worked on it alone, and production credits are generously shared with bassist Zé Nigro and drummer Curumin. Ulitmately, Avante Delírio is Brazilian music influenced by Brazilian music, and while always rooted in the sound of his native North, it pays homage to, among others, the first recordings by Jards Macalé, "Só Morto" (1970), and Jorge Ben's "Tábua de Esmeralda" (1974). Sterns Music is proud to present, for international release on CD, vinyl and digitally, this pivotal new album from one of the leading lights of Brazil's vibrantly independent music scene.
