  • Description

The coupling of these two disparate live sessions from 1972 and 1975 demonstrates Jazz Live Trio's adaptability in playing jazz from different ends of the spectrum - from swing through to free-form, they're at one with whatever style their guest musicians' demand!

The CD opens with the trio accompanying the great post be-bop tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon on two selections: Henry Mancini's ballad, "The Days of Wine and Roses", and "Blues Up and Down" by the equally famous tenor saxophonist, Gene Ammons.

The second part of the disc features the trio with their cohorts from the band Magog, and experimental jazz group who were considered the leading Swiss group of the 1970's and one of the best European ensembles overall. They made one album for ECM's JAPO label in 1974 and the selection of original compositions on this new release includes four live performances of compositions featured on the JAPO studio album; "Rhoades" and "Der Bachstelzer" by the group's pianist Klaus Koenig, and "Summervogel" and "New Samba" by the groups trumpeter, Hans Kennel.

This is Volume 38 of TCB's Swiss Radio Days, a series dedicated to issuing rare and previously unreleased concerts performances recorded for Swiss Radio. Part of the series is dedicated to sessions recorded by the radio stations resident group, The Jazz Trio Live accompanying famous musicians who dropped into the station as guests and featured soloists.

Personnel: Klaus Koenig (piano), Peter Frei (bass), Peter Schmidlin (drums), Dexter Gordon (tenor saxophone), Hans Kennel (trumpet), Andy Scherrer (saxophones, percussion), Paul Haag (trombone, percussion)
