Road Shows
Description
The '55 Kenton orchestra is universally regarded as the swingingest aggregation Stan would ever lead, with arrangements by Bill Holman and "concert-master" Al Porcino and the hot, young drummer Mel Lewis exerting their swing-boosting magnetism.
The Four Freshmen were introduced to Capitol Records by Stan Kenton in 1950 and they soon became chart-toppers, often appearing with Kenton on recordings and in live performances. 'Road Shows' captures the group in 1994 in Holland backed by an all-star trio of Dutch musicians.
Ann Richards' refreshing vocal stylings are showcased on four tracks recorded with the Kenton orchestra, with the cream-of-the-crop arrangements by Bill Holman and Lennie Niehaus, including "It Never Entered My Mind", which was one of her feature-songs.
