Description
In Brazil, music is part of the national identity. As a result, it is present in the daily lives of people of all ages. Brazilian music is truly real-world music, as it is recognized and played all over the world and exerts influence on wide-range of musicians. Brazilian pop music, known as MPB since the 1930s, enjoys tremendous popularity both at home and abroad. Though it never makes the Top 40, there is a large amount of diverse regional music with which local musicians constantly experiment. This variety of local rhythms, and the ability to blend these with imported musical styles, explains the amazing capacity of Brazilians to generate new sounds like chorro, samba, bossa-nova, candomblé, nordesino, forró, maxixe, maracatu and more. This CD provides a small sample of a rich and unpredictable universal music, bringing together some of todays most unique artists ranging in style from electronic dance music to acoustic ballads and updated folklore from the north. Whatever the genre, it is music that is immediately and unquestionably recognizable as Brazilian.
