  • Description

First appearing on the English Folk scene in the late 1960s, Steve Ashley was at the centre of one of the most exciting times for the fusion of folk and rock music. His first solo album 'Stroll On' was released in 1974 to great acclaim and several declarations of "album of the year". Through the intervening years, while not a household name, Steve captured a highly vocal and enthusiastic following always interested in his new work and also clamouring for re-releases of his early classic albums on CD. The high profile re-release of 'Stroll On' in 1999 brought him a new generation of fans. Time and Tide is Steve's second album for Topic Records. His first, 'Everyday Lives' released in 2001, was rapturously received, cementing his place at the forefront of English singer songwriters who grew from English Traditional Roots. With this latest release Steve has raised the ante even further. His new set of songs, challenging and compassionate, deal with life on these islands with candour, humour and hope for the future. The full musical backing includes such luminaries as Fairporters Simon Nichol, Dave Pegg and Chris Leslie. Robin Williamson lends a hand on harp and Steve's old friend Robert Kirby adds some truly breathtaking string arrangements. Packaged in a striking illustrated digipack, with full lyrics in a 12 page booklet.
