Cellist Torlief Thedeen and pianist Marianna Shirinyan present a programme of works by Brahms, Schumann, Schubert and Strauss in this new recording from LAWO Classics. Clara Schumann's Romances (Op. 22), Robert Schumann's first Violin Sonata (Op. 105) and Richard Strauss' Cello Sonata (Op. 6) form the core of this recital. Around and in between these three sizeable multi-movements works, Torleif Thedeen and Marianna Shirinyan have chosen to weave smaller works for cello and violin, also in arrangements by Thedeen.
Swedish cellist Torleif Thedeen is one of the most distinguished instrumentalists in the Nordic countries and enjoys an international profile as a recitalist, concerto soloist, recording artist and pedagogue. He plays the 1783 Guadagnini cello on loan from the Norwegian Dextra foundation, previously owned by M. Rostropovich.
Armenian-born Marianna Shirinyan plays with great sensitivity, understanding, technical brilliance and beauty of tone, which allows her to offer a wide range of repertoire. With a repertoire spanning from classical masterpieces to contemporary works, she has graced renowned concert halls worldwide, captivating audiences with her expressive interpretations. She is a Steinway artist.
