Description
Ray Reed, from Maypearl, Texas, a small town just south of Fort Worth, was born the son of sharecroppers in 1940. He grew up listening to the blues on his grandma's Victrola and at the age of 16 bought his first guitar from a pawnshop. From 1959 to the early '70s he played regularly in the clubs of Fort Worth before setting down his guitar for a job as an auto mechanic to concentrate on raising his 11 kids. In recent years he has been playing regularly again and for this selection of blues standards and original compositions he is joined by some good local friends, Brian 'Hash Brown' Calway (harmonica), Clarence Pierce (guitar), Johnny Woods (bass), Jason Moeller (drums) and the Austrian of the group, Christian Dozzer (piano), who now lives in Dallas.
