  • Description

The Groanbox Boys go far out to the edge and over, ever deeper into an enthralling dark magical world. This third release - their second UK release - Gran Bwa is a concept album which takes the music further out of the ordinary and into truly deep and darkening territory. A distinct haunting spirit suffuses the album, exemplified by the striking cover image of an animal skull that leads us to the forest spirit: "Shamans of yesteryear would smoke apple seeds and get their instructions direct from Gran Bwa himself, placing an offering of sheep's wool at the entrance of the rabbit hole'' says Paul Clifford. Gran Bwa means Great Wood (from the French "grand bois"), the Haitian Voudou god of the deep forest, protector of wild animals and herbal lore, and the gateway between the spirit world and the real world - a voudou equivalent of English folk's Tam Lin. Tracks; 1. Pigman's dog / 2. Bogeyman / 3. Shards of the journey (talisman) / 4. Dam door / 5. Where are you now? / 6. Poison at the tollbooth / 7. Beneath a dark veil of needles / 8. Deer bone in the mansion / 9. Chicken foot (put em away) / 10. Rabbit on a hill / 11. Mountains are creeping (yew) / 12. Fire underground / 13. Staging day / 14. N.C
