German five-piece electro-jazz group Nighthawks recorded on November 24th 2018 live at Fabrik Hamburg, one of their best concert performances of recent years!Cologne once had a cinema which Nighthawks founders Dal Martino and Reiner Winterschladen simply called Roxy. Before they retired to the studio to write music, films were often watched there. The rattling of the film spools accompanied the two musicians to the adjacent bar, where they exchanged ideas about cinematic parameters, such as colour, movement and light. The influence of these cinematic visits become formative to their compositions and is still felt to this day.
While the studio albums were unfairly dismissed as too smooth by some critics, this live document now definitely shows another side: powerful and direct. Displaying both the bands rock and jazz chops. This album is a pure distillate from years of playing experience and at the same time clearly stands out from the last live album from 2012. 'Next To The Roxy' breathes the club atmosphere and with "Hace Mucho" it also presents a track that came live on stage for the first time that night.
