  • Description

Winner of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2005, Instrumentalist of the year 2009 at Scottish Traditional Music Awards, her previous album, 'When Leaves Fal'l named as Classic Album at Celtic Connections Festival 2008, Lauren MacColl is not without her admirers. This, her second solo album takes it's name from a prophecy of her native Black Isle's ancient prophet the Brahan Seer, it is a stunning, and emotional musical journey from heartbreaking Gaelic airs to rousing Strathspeys and Reels. Lauren uses old printed sources for her material, and adds her own tunes to weave a rich tapestry of sounds with her fellow musicians. Known for her richly expressive tone on the fiddle, this music is hugely evocative of the Highland landscape that inspired it. It contains no words, and neither does it need to: these are musicians who can paint pictures and tell stories with their instruments alone. Produced by Chris Stout (Fiddlers' Bid), Lauren is joined by regular collaborators Barry Reid (Treacherous Orchestra) on guitar and acclaimed pianist Mhairi Hall. Special guests are Donald Shaw (Capercaillie) on accordion and harmonium, Su-a Lee (Mr McFall's Chamber) on cello and producer Stout on viola. "quite simply the best playing of a slow air I have ever heard" Mike Harding, Radio 2 "stop in your tracks gorgeousness" The Herald "Anyone who thinks there are no great old tunes left to discover should revise their opinion after hearing this Cd: ''forgotten reels, strathspeys, airs and jigs come alive in Lauren's hands" Irish Music Magazine "an exceptional talent among the nowadays crowded ranks of Scottish fiddlers" Songlines Also available MBR1CD 'When Leaves Fall'
