Description
World-renowned harpist Judy Loman has chosen a collection of Baroque pieces she originally learned to play on the piano. She loved them so much that she wrote her own transcriptions for the harp.
Says Judy "Salzedo used to say that one should never transcribe a work written for another instrument unless by doing so the work would be enhanced. I am not sure that I am that altruistic in my reasons for these transcriptions, because to be honest, I have transcribed them for the pure joy of being able to play them on what has become my main instrument. I do believe, though, that the quality and colors of the harp sound have added a special dimension to the music on this CD."
Student, performer, teacher, juror, visionary, wife and mother are all hats that Judy Loman has worn throughout her monumental career. In June 2002 after an impressive 42 years, Judy Loman retired as principal harpist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, a post she was awarded after studies with Carlos Salzedo at the Curtis Institute (Philadelphia, U.S.A.).
She has been heard as soloist with orchestras across North America, Europe, Israel and Japan as well as at the American Harp Society and World Harp Congress. Her recordings are available worldwide, and several have received international recognition and awards including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Juno Award.
