Description
Peter James' eleven beautifully crafted compositions for his piano trio, draw on diverse influences - from classical and Latin inflections to freer and more groove based genres. In keeping with their debut album, a strong harmonic and lyrical sensibility, "the gift of melody" (Jazz UK) is evident throughout.
The creative respect amongst the players contributes to music which is vibrant, original and compelling - qualities recognised by reviewers of the first album: "Spirited and inventive trio interplay." (Robert Shore, Jazzwise) "In addition to a deftness and delicacy of touch, he is able to infuse his playing with much rarer and less tangible quality: genuine sentiment." (Chris Parker, Vortex)
When asked about the new album James replies, "We've grown in our identity as a trio and become more adventurous. The new album significantly - albeit subtly, expands the trio's sound pallet by using a bit of Hammond organ on a few tracks. I love acoustic instruments and I also love the expansive textures and colours you can get from blending electronics with natural sounds that's something we're now exploring in the live context."
Personnel: Peter James (piano, Hammond organ), Jeremy Brown (double bass), Thomas Hooper (drums, percussion)
"A musician with a strong identity and inner calling...as an improviser James is lucid and imaginative and truly communicates...a talent with a lot to say and the vocabulary to say it soulfully!" - Julian Joseph, BBC Radio 3
"Excellent new British jazz trio." - Mike Chadwick, Jazz FM
"Fabulous playing by a great new band." - Linley Hamilton, BBC Radio Ulster
