  • Description

ALL ON A WINTER’S NIGHT is the new Christmas album from Johnny Coppin, and playing on the album are Karen Tweed and Paul Burgess, plus Dik Cadbury and Geoff March from Decameron. The album includes original songs, such as the title track, evoking the magic of the run-up to Christmas, and Snow In The Street, a setting of a William Morris poem; classic English carols like God Rest You Gentlemen, and In The Bleak Midwinter (with the Gustav Holst tune "Cranham" named after the village and woods very near to where Johnny lives in Gloucestershire) as well songs from France and Spain; two songs from the USA - Welcome In Another Year, and The Christmas Star; an Irish tune written by the late Mick Dolan and Halsway Carol, a midwinter carol written by Nigel Eaton from Blowzabella, and named after Halsway Manor, The National Centre for Folk Arts. Johnny is a singer/songwriter who began his career as one of the founder members of the folk band Decameron. As a solo artist, Johnny has gone on to record over twelve albums including his very latest All On A Winter's Night. For many years he toured as a duo with Phil Beer (Show of Hands). He now works solo, as a duo with fellow with singer/songwriter Mike Silver, and as trio for the Christmas tour with Paul Burgess (ex John Kirkpatrick Band) and Dik Cadbury (ex Steve Hackett, and Decameron). Playing guitar and piano, his music is essentially British, always melodic and evocative, and includes traditional material among the original songs. Johnny has performed at many festivals, concert halls, and venues large and small. He has also performed tributes to the writer Laurie Lee and also presents an Acoustic Music programme every Saturday on BBC Radio Gloucestershire. "Immediately accessible and thoroughly appealing" - fRoots “Arguably the clearest and most soothing male vocal in the world of British folk music - This album takes us back to the true value and meaning of Christmas" – Folk Radio UK "A perfect record to settle down with alongside the port and mince pies." - R2 Magazine
