  • Description

Thoroughbredmusic is delighted to announce Martin Stephenson & John Perry's first single'Salutation Road' and the new collaboration album 'New Wave Connection'.

We are delighted to welcome the legendary folk/rock singer-songwriter Martin Stephenson to the Thoroughbred Music Stable, and to announce the release of Martin's new single 'Salutation Road' a collaboration with long term pal John Perry impacting now! Martin is best known for his band Martin Stephenson and The Daintees, with who he still tours extensively as well as performing solo.

John Perry founded 'The Only Ones' with Peter Perrett, recording a series of albums for CBS Records. The Only Ones came out of London during the first wave of punk (1976-77) and toured with New York bands The Heartbreakers and Television. Perry's guitar style is noted for a combination of attack and melody, a mixture that the UK music magazine Sounds described as being "very superb".

    Editors Notes:
Martin Stephenson is one of the UK's best-loved songwriter/musicians for over 35 years. His must-see live performances are an exuberant tour-de-force combining heart-in-your-mouth intimacy with playful humour and warm self-deprecation.

He has amassed a strong back catalog of quality albums, including the highly acclaimed album Boat to Bolivia, released in 1986. Martin is renowned as a hard-working touring artist, never failing to deliver quality performances.

His band of Daintees are a highly skilled squad of versatile master musicians with exceptionally wide-ranging skills, including 'Alt Country' which was a term Stephenson originated in 1985 whilst describing the song 'Running Water' on his debut album Boat to Bolivia.

After performing the song Rain on the recent Billy Connolly documentary, the Big Yin described Martin as ... "his kind of musician".

John Perry began playing professionally at 15 and played on the first pyramid stage at the 1971 Glastonbury Festival. He spent several years touring England and Europe with Hawkwind/Pink Fairies collective before forming 'The Only Ones' in 1975 with Peter Perrett, recording a series of albums for CBS Records.
