"Evening Hymns are sometimes many, sometimes few - but the imagination of Canadian songwriter Jonas Bonnetta remains a constant.
Making a rare return to European shores, Evening Hymns have recorded a few single, with 'Northern Arm' forthcoming on Tin Angel. It's an engrossing return.
Languid yet engrossing, bordering on dream pop at times it also has a remarkably lucid lyrical feel. Jonas explains a little more:
I wrote this song last winter. My friend Josh and I were tinkering around on some songs for a project we have together called Eternal Dirt Nap (album forthcoming 2019) and we came up with this melody and feel and just jammed on it for awhile. The idea of being on the arm of someone still seems romantic to me and the idea of trying to maintain that alone in the woods even more so. Can two people entertain themselves with love forever? In our days of constant distraction can a real, clear love even exist?
Living in the country puts your life under the microscope in a lot of ways and relationships tend to blossom or crumble. This song was me thinking about love in an isolated place and how I wanted that to look. Could I picture you on my northern arm? Falling in love in a distracted world and then taking that love to a place where there are less distractions can be telling. The path of love becomes more transparent. There is less noise. The signal comes in more clear."
