Montreal Festival Wind Orchestra & Mordechai Rechtman
Description
This new recording highlights the magnificent organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach interpreted through the language and tones of orchestral wind instruments and double bass.
Through his transcriptions, arranger and conductor Mordechai Rechtman pays tribute to J.S.Bach by reproducing the full range of organ tone colors, imparting freshness and lustre to these musical compositions, and generating a living, breathing sound that gives the works an entirely new dimension. The result is a complex yet architecturally perfect musical structure—satisfying to our ears, as though we are hearing the works for the first time.
Mordechai Rechtman, a renowned bassoonist, conductor, arranger, and educator, was principal bassoonist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra for over 40 years and has appeared as a soloist with other leading orchestras in Israel and abroad. He has founded several ensembles and conducted many of Israel's orchestras, and his transcriptions and arrangements have been published by leading publishing houses, and played by orchestras and major ensembles all over the world. For an extended period of time Rechtman was professor at the Rubin Academy of Music of Tel-Aviv University and at Indiana School of Music in Bloomington, USA. As guest Professor he has taught at Juilliard, the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts, The Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Geneva Music Conservatory.
