The eponymously titled debut from Hackney’s favourite “Ninja Folk� band, contains eight characterful and original instrumental pieces, which flow from gypsy to classical, punk to dub, hoe-down to polka, and frequently all at once. No one said it would be easy. No one thought it would really happen. But in 2011 Victor Menace recorded an album, and on Halloween (31st of October 2011) it will be released on River Rat Records, distributed by Proper Music Distribution. Stories of ship-wrecks and shark-bites, blurry-eyed Hawaiian islands, post-apocalyptic hoe-downs and horse-races.. it’s all there, like a Brothers Grimm collection written in a foreign language, with some of the pages stuck together. Recorded in true DIY style at the River Rat Records studio in Stoke Newington, including foot stomps, involuntary screams, and occasional snores from certain members, “Victor Menace� serves as the perfect souvenir for anyone who has experienced the band’s charming ferocity first hand, or the perfect first introduction to the band you went to bed too early to see. -
